On Sunday morning, February 8, 2026, members from Company 1, and the Calvert County Dive Team conducted an ice rescue drill to ensure preparedness in case we are needed.

Participants reviewed donning and familiarization with the Ice Commander suits (waterproof, insulated and buoyant), and practiced rescue operations and self-rescue. The drill took place at the marina on Fishing Creek.

Your NBVFD reminds you that even though we have experienced severe cold weather and many of our static and moving water bodies are covered in ice, use extreme caution if you decide to go out on the ice. Remember ice is never 100% safe. Refer to the attached guide from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources for guidance.
