Crews were kept busy over the weekend with several calls for service in the late evening/early morning hours.
Saturday morning (10/27) at 0129 hours, Area Box 109 was sounded for a house filling with smoke in the 9100blk of N. Woodland Way. Crews from Co. 5, 6, 1, 2, and Anne Arundel responded. After an extensive search of the house, a defective power strip located behind the homeowner’s aquarium was found to be the source. The strip had ignited and damaged the floor and wall behind the aquarium.
On Sunday evening Co. 1, along with Co. 5, Co. 6, Co. 2, and Companies 9 and 42 were dispatched for another smoke in the house call in the 9300blk of Sea Oat Court. Crews searched the house and determined the cause to be a defective furnace.
In addition, crews ran area boxes to Co. 2’s and Co. 6’s area, and two brush fires. EMS units ran 11 calls for service.
Your NBVFD reminds everyone that power strips should be replaced every five to seven years, and if you smell smoke, don’t hesitate to call 911 |
