North Beach EMS sergeant Bethany Higgs was recognized on Monday, April 20, 2026, with a life-saving award for actions at her full-time job with St. Mary’s County EMS. Bethany was part of a crew that responded to a call for a 50-year old male with chest pains. Upon arrival, Bethany and her partner recognized the patient was experiencing a major cardiac event. They quickly called for additional resources, including aviation for a fly out to Washington Hospital Center (WHC). The patient went into cardiac arrest at the landing zone. He was revived and flown to WHC where he was successfully treated. Bethany, the crews involved, and the patient were reunited at today’s ceremony in St. Mary’s. Congratulations to Bethany, and all those involved. Job well done!
