| At 0637 hours, Area Box 106 was dispatched for the working apartment fire with people trapped in the 3900 block of Gordon Stinnett Avenue. While enroute, Calvert Communications advised units they were receiving multiple calls. Chief 1 immediately struck the 2nd alarm.
First arriving units found a 2 story multi-family apartment building with heavy fire showing from both floors and the roof. Engine 11 & Squad 1 initially began an aggressive interior attack and to search for victims possibly trapped. Chief 1 arrived on location and assumed the Command. Due to rapidly changing conditions within the building, the evacuation tones were sounded; making it a defensive operation. Master streams were utilized along with hand lines to extinguish the bulk of the fire before being able to go back inside and complete a primary search, which proved to be negative.
Thankfully, all occupants were able to escape with only one reporting a minor injury and was transported. Units on scene completed extensive overhaul on the structure. In all, 14 apartments were affected by this fire. Units operated for approximately six hours before returning to service. The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the fire.
