Tropical Storm Ophelia

September 23, 2023

Tropical Storm Ophelia is in the area until sometime tomorrow. Please be smart and observe the following:

Do not walk or drive through flooded areas. Water depth is deceiving, especially at night. Manhole covers can be displaced creating a trap and water flowing into submerged storm drains can create entrapment hazards that can lead to drowning.

Avoid downed utility lines. All downed lines should be considered energized and deadly.

Our call volume typically increases during storm periods. It may take longer to receive service for non-emergency call types like trees down, flooding conditions, etc.

In preparation for a power outage:

- Have flashlights ready. Do not use candles.

- Make sure your cell phone is fully charged.

- If you have a gasoline or diesel powered portable generator, ensure it is positioned outside with the exhaust pointed away from the house.

- Do not operate generators, gas or charcoal grills in enclosed spaces. Even a garage with the doors open can still trap enough carbon monoxide to be deadly.

- If the power goes out, limit the time you go in and out of your fridge to extend the life of perishable foods. If the power is off for more than four hours, everything in the fridge should be thrown out. Frozen foods will be good for 48 hours.
