North Beach Volunteer Fire Department Centennial
February 5, 2026, marked the 100th anniversary of the first organization of the North Beach Volunteer Fire Department. Thirty-nine residents of the town agreed to create an organized volunteer fire department, and 34 of the 39 members joined as active members, while 5 joined as associate members. Willard Ward was elected fire chief, H. R. Sanders was elected president, Harry J. Tucker was elected secretary, Oscar Marshall was elected treasurer, Jacob Delp assistant chairman, and Samuel Owings Sr., corresponding secretary.
From these humble beginnings, the department grew, received its state charter on August 4, 1926, and evolved into the organization that proudly serves "North Beach and Vicinity" today.
We are indebted to our founders for their dedication and strive to meet the needs of the community with the same commitment to service.
Join us this Centennial Year – 2026 – to celebrate the remarkable citizens who founded the Department, and the thin red line of volunteers that stretches from those humble beginnings in a town hall to today’s vibrant
public safety organization. Learn more about our history HERE.
