North Beach Volunteer Fire Department
Cadet Program
NBVFD is committed to building future fire and emergency medical services leaders. Starting at age 13 (with signed permission from a parent or legal guardian) the NBVFD Cadet Program is designed to teach discipline, leadership, accountability, and work ethic in the context of serving the community in emergency services. Cadets enjoy a breadth of learning experiences from hands-on learning to classroom teaching from experienced leaders to field trips and exercises. While we want learning to be fun, mindset, attitude, and focused effort are the primary objectives.
The NBVFD Cadet Program can also start the career path for a future in fire/EMS. We work in close coordination with the Calvert County Career and Technology Academy (CTA) , and we meet the program requirements for membership with a Volunteer Fire or Rescue Company. As cadets get older, they become elligible for Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute (MFRI) training including Emergency Medical Technician and Firefighter I, with supporting mentoring and station training. Cadets get a head start on an in-demand and personally rewarding future.
Most importantly, Cadets join a community of committed public servants and civic leaders. NBVFD members include paid fire/EMS personnel, law enforcement officers, government officials, small business owners, CEOs, and non-profit executives. We create an environment for the pursuit of excellence.
