Smoke Investigation: E Chesapeake Beach Rd.
April 21, 2022

At 2053 hours on 4/20/2022, Calvert County Emergency Communications Center sounded Area Box 109 for smoke in the building at Dash-In, in the 100 blk. of E Chesapeake Beach Road. Units from North Beach VFD, Dunkirk VFD, Huntingtown VFD, Prince Frederick VFD, Anne Arundel County Fire Department, and Calvert County EMS responded.

Dunkirk Chief 5A happened to be in the store at the time, confirmed smoke in the building from an unknown source, initiated an investigation, and established command. Chief 1A (Freesland) arrived shortly after and assumed command from Chief 5A. NBVFD Engine 11 arrived, established a supply line and advanced a 1 1/2” handline to the building. NBVFD Tower 1 laddered the roof while other companies arrived and took positions per command’s direction.

An extensive search was conducted to locate the source of the smoke. Crews eventually found a small burned area on one of the roof trusses in the attic and determined this to be the source. A small amount of water was used to ensure the truss was no longer burning. The cause was determined to be electrical. No injuries were reported.

The NBVFD reminds everyone to dial 911 and evacuate an occupancy immediately if smoke is smelled or seen.
