| At 1809 hours on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, Calvert County Emergency Communications Center (CCECC) dispatched Boat 1 for a boater in distress in the Bay, directly across from Station 1. Callers on the shore advised the boat appeared to be in distress. Boat 1 responded, made contact with the boater who advised the boat had lost power, but refused assistance. At 2315 hours, the boater called (CCECC) requesting assistance citing rough seas. Boat 1 responded again, made contact with the boater, and at the boater’s request, removed the boater from the vessel and brought him to shore. Due to rough seas the disabled boat was unable to be secured and the Coast Guard was notified. The vessel came to rest overnight near Cherry Avenue. The NBVFD reminds all boaters to be alert for changing weather conditions on the Bay and have contingency plans for seeking safe shelter. |
