| Thursday night's company fire drill gathered 32 members to train on one of the most demanding tasks a firefighter performs, search. The drill opened with a review of best practices and statistics on where victims are most likely to be found. Then the company was divided into two groups for hands on evolutions.
One group practiced crew level search operations in blacked out and vision obscured conditions, while the second group reviewed use of the department's large area search bags. After each group completed their tasks, they switched so each member had a chance to build some experience under controlled situations.
Gathering as a company to perform tasks together is invaluable in building individual and team confidence and makes us better prepared to face the challenges of a demanding firefighting task. |
