At 1245 hours on Thursday, February 19, 2026, Calvert County Emergency Communications sounded Area Box 106 for a furnace fire at the Chesapeake Beach Maintenance Facility in the 8500blk of Bayside Road. Co. 1 (North Beach), 5 (Dunkirk), 6 (Huntingtown), 2 (Prince Frederick), 42 (Anne Arundel), and PA201 (Calvert County Emergency Services) were alerted.

Engine 12, with a crew of five, laid a 4” supply line from a hydrant in the complex and arrived to find nothing showing but a report of a fire in the flue. The crew pulled a 250’ 1 1/2” line to the garage entrance of the maintenance building, while the officer investigated. Incoming units were directed to stage in their line of approach.

Command 1 arrived, received a face-to-face report from Engine 12’s officer, and established Bayside Command. Tower 1, with a crew of four, positioned to ladder the roof if needed. Engine 11 arrived and staged at the hydrant.

The investigation revealed a fire out with a clogged flue still registering a temperature exceeding 500 degrees at the clog. Since there was no extension, units other than Company 1 were released. Crews were able to disassemble the flue to access the clog and cool the materials in the flue. All elements of the flue were removed from the building and units returned to service.

Your NBVFD reminds everyone with a chimney to ensure the chimney is inspected and cleaned at least annually.

On a related note, while this incident was winding down, residents of the Twin Beaches also placed three 911 calls for medical emergencies. Those calls were handled by PA201, and PA205, our Co. 6 partners.
