The North Beach Volunteer Fire Department is saddened to announce the passing of Treasurer Emeritus and former Department Vice President Wayne Gordy, who served the Twin Beaches and Calvert County for more than 74 years. A cornerstone for much of the Department's history, his mark on the NBVFD will endure.

Joining the Department in 1951, Gordy demonstrated a quick knack for solving problems. He rose to Assistant Engineer, then Engineer, and ultimately to Chief Engineer in 1979. At that time, most maintenance and repair of fire apparatus happened at the station and required deft hands and a keen eye.

Known for fixing things, Gordy was elected to treasurer during tough financial times for the Department. He built a system, got everything in order, and set the solid financial foundation upon which today's NBVFD operates. He remained Treasurer until 2013, when he was named Treasurer Emeritus.

Rising as high as Vice President, Gordy always operated behind the scenes as the one who fixed things. He is remembered for his dedication, the life he brought to every room, and his indomitable ability to get things done.

We can't replace you Chief, but we will always carry on.
