On Sunday, May 18, 2025, Calvert County Emergency Communications sounded Area Box 106 for a report of smoke coming from the residence in the 2600blk of Deerfield Lane. Units from Company 1 (North Beach), Company 5 (Dunkirk), Company 6 (Huntingtown), Company 2 (Prince Frederick), Anne Arundel Companies 42 (Deale) and 9 (Lothian), Calvert EMS Paramedic 219, and the North Duty Chief responded.

Chief 5B arrived first and reported smoke showing from a two-story townhouse. Engine 12 and Safety Officer 1 arrived shortly after. Safety Officer 1 assumed command while Engine 12 made entry, finding a kitchen fire controlled by one head from the automatic fire sprinkler system. Crews confirmed the fire was out, shut off the sprinkler system, and ventilated smoke. The incident was quickly scaled back to Company 1 units. Damage was confined to the kitchen. The occupants were not home and there were no injuries.

This incident graphically demonstrates the value of automatic fire sprinklers and serves as a reminder to ensure all cooking devices are turned off before leaving your residence.
