On Saturday, November 11, at 1125 hours Calvert County Communications Center struck the area box alarm for smoke in the building at Windward Key in Chesapeake Beach. North Beach VFD Chief 1A, Chief 1C, Engine 11, Engine 12, Tower 1, and Ambulance 18 responded along with units from Huntingtown VFD, Dunkirk VFD, Prince Frederick VFD, and Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

Engine 11 arrived on scene and found light smoke conditions, and after ensuring the safety of occupants, identified a hot water controller as the source. After shutting down the system, checking for extension, and clearing the smoke, units returned to service.

We note that the fast action of the occupant to call 9-1-1 and quickly leave the premises led to the best outcome.
