May 21, 2022

On Friday, 5/20/2022, the NBVFD and Bayside History Museum were pleased to have a visit from Tom Tozzolo, son of Vincent Tozzolo, and grandson of Thomas Tozzolo, one of the founding members of the NBVFD, longtime NBVFD fire chief, and first Calvert County fire service chief to serve as president of the Maryland State Firemen’s Association.

Tom brought along a variety of photos and memorabilia from his grandfather’s collection, donating a number of pieces to the Bayside History Museum. The donated pieces included two logbooks from the 1940s, photos of the 1947 pumper we are restoring, a number of Chief Tozzolo’s medals from various Maryland State Firemen’s Association conventions, and a scrap book containing numerous articles chronicling fires and other historic events in North Beach and vicinity.

The Bayside History Museum is scanning the documents and photos into its archive for preservation and the photos will be used to help restore the truck.

Many thanks to Tom, and his wife Iris, for spending part of the afternoon with us. A return visit is in the works to show Tom and Iris the updated museum display of the NBVFD.
