At 0037hrs. Engine 12(R.Whittington) and Chief 1(B.Freesland) were alerted for the house fire in the 601 Box(Huntingtown) on Potts Point Road.  Engine 61 arrived to find a two story house with fire showing throughout the house.  Engine 12 being the 4th due engine arrived and assumed the rapid intervention team.  Due to the quick work of company 6's crews the fire was knocked down within minutes.  Engine 12's crew also checked for extension on the exterior walls and assisted with overhaul.  The engine and chief cleared at 0321 hrs.  Pictures courtesy of company 2.


 
   
   
 
FIRST DUE COMMERCIAL BOX

At 1702 hrs. Engine 11(K.Kendrick), Engine 12(Sgt.Bennett), Rescue 1(D.Wyatt), Ambulance 18(D.Whittington), and Chief 1B(P. O'Conner) were alerted for reports of an electrical fire in the Subway in the 105 Box.  Engine 11 arrived first establishing the water supply and was side Alpha with nothing evident.  Engine 12 arrived securing Engine 11's line, and Rescue 1 arrived moments later establishing a secondary water supply.  Engine 11's crew made entry into the building encountering light smoke conditions, and a fire that had started in the ceiling that was extinguished.  Crews secured the power and checked for extension.  Chief 1B had the 105 command. Units racked up and cleared at 1737 hrs.


 
 
AUTO ACCIDENT 260 AND MOUNT HARMONY RD

At 1339hrs.  Rescue 1(J.Keller) and Ambulance 19(R.Whittington) were alerted for a vehicle accident in the area of 260 and Mount Harmony Rd.  Chief 6A(Spriggs) arrived first reporting 2 vehicles and a corrected location of Eastbound 260 Just past Mount Harmony Rd.  Rescue 1 and Ambulance 19 arrived moments later.  Rescue 1 secured both vehicles and cleaned the roadway.  Ambulance 19 transported 1 patient priority 3 to CMH.  Units cleared at 1359 hrs.


 
 
BAYSIDE ROAD VEHICLE ACCIDENT

At 0208hrs. Rescue 1(Sgt. Bennett), Ambulance 18(J.Kelley), Ambulance 19(Lt. Dillion), Command 1(Chief 1A D.Gibson), And Chief 1(B.Freesland), responded to Bayside Road in the area of Camp Roosevelt for the auto accident with reports of a vehicle overturned.  Chief 1 arrived a found one vehicle overturned with one patient still inside.  Rescue 1 and the Ambulance arrived and removed patient from vehicle.  One patient was transported.  Chief 1 had the Bayside Road Command.  Pictures courtesy of DCHookedonphotography.com


 
   
   
 
OPEN HOUSE

On Saturday members of the department came together for the dedication of the remodeled building and to hold our 2008 Annual open house.  We also had visitors from the Calvert County Sheriffs Office, Calvert County 911 center, And Maryland Department Of Natural Resources.  Our ladies Auxiliary prepared food for the event and we put on a live demonstration of a shed on fire.  The weather wasn't exactly on our side, but we all had a good time and hopefully everyone will make it back next year.


 
   
   
 
FIRST DUE AUTO ACCIDENT

At 0030 hrs. Rescue 1(Lt.Dillion), Engine 11(J.Kivett), Ambulance 18(J.Donohue), Ambulance 19(W.Reed), and Chief 1(B.Freesland) responded for the auto accident with reports of a vehicle into a tree at Rt. 778 and Thomas Ave.  Chief 1 arrived first and advised he a 1 patient.  Ambulance 58 arrived and started patient care.  Rescue 1 arrived and assisted with removing the patient from vehicle and loading patient into ambulance.  Ambulance 58 transported 1 patient to CMH.  Chief 1 had the command.  Units cleared at 0041 hrs.

Wayne Reed a medic for the United States Army recently returned home from his first deployment in Iraq.  He leaves Monday for his second tour of duty.  Its great seeing you back Wayne and keep yourself safe on your second tour.

261 AND PONDS WOOD RD

1802 hours on Sunday October 19, 2008, Rescue 1and Ambulance 18 were alerted for the overturned vehicle with people trapped at Ponds Wood Road and Bayside Road Company 6 first due.  Units from company 6 arrived to find a two vehicle "T-bone" collision with one patient trapped. Rescue 1 stood-by with a handline for precautionary reasons and assisted with extrication before being released to the Landing Zone. A total of 5 patients required transport, bringing two more Ambulances to the scene including Ambulance 19 and  Ambulance 47. One patient was flown to PG Shock Trauma and 4 patients were ground transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital.   Pictures Courtesy of John Gott Jr.

Crews from the department headed over to the football field for the homecoming football game of the Buccaneers.  Crews from the beach enjoyed the game as well as responded to calls throughout the evening.

FIRST DUE KITCHEN

At 1841hrs. Area Box 110 was sounded for a kitchen fire on 4Th Street North Beach.  Engine 11(Chief 1B P.O'Conner), Tower 1(B.Dailey), Engine 12(D.McGown), Ambulance 18(D.Whittington),Ambulance 19(W.Weaver), Command 1(Sgt.Bennett), Chief 1(B.Freesland), and Captain 1(B.Gee).  A total of 20 volunteers responded.  Captain 1arrived first side alpha with smoke showing.  Engine 11 arrived and advanced a 200' attack line into the house.  Upon entry Engine 11's crew encountered heavy smoke conditions and found what started as food on the stove with fire extending throughout the kitchen cabinets and into the walls.  Tower 1 arrived and secured power and supplied lights and ventilation.  Because of the quick work of Engine 11's crew the fire was placed under control and command held the box with company 1units only.  Chief 1 had the 4Th Street command.  Units cleared at 1931 hrs.


 
 
AMBULANCE HEADS TO WALDORF FOR FILL IN

At 1230 hrs. Ambulance 18 staffed by R.Whittington and Joe Keller headed to Waldorf Company 12 to fill in while there members participated in memorial services for the line of duty death of Tanya Mallard.  Ambulance 18 ran 2 calls while at the station.  Ambulance 18 returned home around 1830 hrs.


 
 
VEHICLE ACCIDENT ON 260

At 1748 hrs. Rescue 1 (Sgt. Bennett) Ambulance 18(J.Kivett) and Captain 1 (B.Gee) responded to the east bound lane of 260 just prior to Horace Ward Rd. for a vehicle accident.  Rescue 1 arrived to find a 2 vehicle accident with no injuries.  Ambulance 18 obtained 3 sign of refusals and Rescue 1  secured batteries on vehicles and cleaned the roadway of debris.  Captain 1 had the command.  Units cleared at 1807 hrs.
